Chief Minister Inaugurates 150-bed COVID-19 Hospital in Puri

PURI/BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday virtually inaugurated a 150-bef Covid Hospital in the premises of Shri Jagannath Medical College at Puri.

Set up with the collaboration of Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital at Bhubaneswar, the facility has 90 General Oxygen Beds, 40 HDU beds and 20 ICU beds. It is also equipped with a high quality laboratory and diagnostic facility.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the hospital would be helpful in providing better medical care to critical Covid patients of the district and they would not have to look for hospitals in Bhubaneswar or Cuttack.

The chief minister also said  that all the beds had provision for oxygen and the number of such beds would be further increased if needed.

Mr. Patnaik also thanked the IMS and SUM Hospital for coming forward to team up with the state government for setting up this Covid Care facility.

In his address the CM said that the Covid patients of the district now can avail treatment in the hospital without moving to Bhubaneswar. “In fact we contained the virus with a greater success. In the second wave, we have somehow been able to contain it largely,” said Patnaik.

Sources said the Covid hospital has 20 beds reserved for ICU, 40 beds for (high dependency unit) HDU patients and rest 90 for the general wards.

Among others, Education Minister Samir Dash, Deputy Chairman State Planning Board Sanjay Dasburma, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tarunikanti Behera and district Collector Samarth Verma were present.
