NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR:Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan today launched the new ‘Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence’ (CT and AI) course of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on the first day of the academic year 2026-27. The course, intended for students from classes 3 to 8, is a major step towards fulfilling the goals of the National Education Policy-2020.
Addressing the event, Shri Pradhan said that India is today making its mark in the global technology arena. Developed in collaboration with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), this curriculum will introduce AI education in the CBSE school system on a large scale. The introduction of this curriculum from the beginning of the new academic year is a transformative step in the Indian education system. This will not only enhance the technical knowledge of the students, but will also develop their creativity, design orientation and problem-solving skills. Based on the vision of “AI for Education, AI in Education”, this education system will help in developing Indian children not only as users of technology, but also as innovators of technology in the coming days.
The special features of the curriculum are that it includes simple and systematic ‘structured modules’ according to the age and intelligence of the children. Along with this, teachers will be provided with extensive training and a special ‘Teacher’s Handbook’ for effective teaching in schools. A modern assessment framework has been prepared to check the learning skills of the students. Shri Pradhan thanked CBSE and NCERT for implementing this curriculum. Union Minister of State for Education Shri Jayant Choudhary was also present on the occasion.
It is worth noting that from the academic year 2026-27, this curriculum will be implemented from class III to VIII. It will enhance children’s critical thinking, problem-solving skills and pattern recognition. The curriculum will make education fun through games and various activities. It will teach the techniques of simplifying complex problems through puzzles and mathematical games. Children will be tested based on their creativity and ability to apply technology instead of just declaring them. Through this curriculum, it is aimed to make India a world leader in the field of AI and machine learning.
