Dhaneswar Barad, Superintendent of Excise, Rourkela intercepted Odisha Vigilance, Rs 5 lakhs bribe seized

BHUBANESWAR: Late on Friday night,  based on reliable inputs that Sri Dhaneswar Barad, Superintendent of Excise, Rourkela, has collected huge bribe cash from excise licencees, a team of Odisha Vigilance was keeping a watch on him.

Today, a short while ago, while he was sending cash of Rs 5 lakhs through a salesman of a local wine shop in Scorpio bearing Regd. No.-OD-14AD-1314, the Vigilance team intercepted the vehicle in front of the Excise Superintendent’s Office located at Uditnagar, Rourkela in presence of witnesses and recovered cash of Rs 5 lakhs, which the salesman admitted to have been given by Excise Superintendent Sri Barad for delivery to his residence.

On confrontation with the salesman, Excise Superintendent Shri Barad also admitted the same and could not give any satisfactory explanation for the recovered cash of Rs.5,00,000/- (Rupees Five Lakhs). Hence, the same has been seized.

In this connection, Rourkela Vigilance PS Case No.12 dated 11.09.2026 under Section 13(2) read with Section 13 (1) (b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018 has been registered.
 Searches have been launched at his office and residential locations from D.A. angle. Investigation is in progress.
