Odisha’s coastal security will be strengthened through coordinated efforts: Chief Secretary

PURI/BHUBANESWAR:The Coastal Security Branch of Odisha Police has successfully organized the “State Level Coastal Security Conference – 2026” at the Police Bhawan. Organized with the aim of making the coastal security system of the state stronger and more effective, the conference discussed in detail the current challenges, possible solutions and future courses of action.

Chief Secretary Anu Garg, who attended the industrial session of the conference as the chief guest, said that coastal security plays a very important role in building a “Prosperous Odisha”. The importance of the coastal region is increasing gradually with the rapid development of new ports, fish landing centres, industrial projects and maritime infrastructure in the state.
He added that a coordinated effort is needed to protect the coast. He opined that a safe, strong and effective coastal security system can be possible only when various government departments, security agencies and other institutions related to the coast work as a team.
He expressed the state government’s commitment to enhance the capacity of the coastal security branch, integrate modern technology, develop the skills of human resources and provide necessary infrastructure facilities. He said that through more resources, more technology and better integration, the coast of Odisha will be further protected, enabled and strengthened.
Senior police officers from four coastal states including Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and West Bengal participated in today’s conference and exchanged views on their respective experiences and innovative initiatives being taken in the field of coastal security. Chief Secretary Smt. Anu Garg expressed her happiness that the participation of representatives from various states made the conference more fruitful and important. In addition, representatives from 18 different departments and organizations related to coastal security participated in the conference.
Attending the event as the guest of honour, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Shri Hemant Sharma emphasized on continuous coordination, information sharing and effective use of modern security equipment among various departments and agencies to further strengthen the coastal security system. He also suggested to further strengthen the security system by establishing good relations with the local residents living in the coastal areas.
DGP (Crime) Shri Binaytosh Mishra, in his speech, highlighted the need for technology-enabled surveillance, intelligence sharing and cooperation to further strengthen the coastal security system of the state.
At the outset, Additional Director General of Security (Railways and Coastal Security), Shri Arun Kumar Bothra delivered the welcome address and outlined the purpose and importance of the conference. He gave a detailed account of the various steps being taken to make the coastal security system stronger, modern and effective.
At the end of the program, AIGP (Coastal Security) Shri Satyajit Mishra proposed a vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to all the guests, delegates and participating organizations who contributed to the successful organization of the conference.
