BHUBANESWAR:An inhuman incident has come to light when an 85-year-old woman from Karduli village under Bangiriposhi police station in Mayurbhanj district was left helpless in the forest by her own sons. The local Bangiriposhi police team has created a unique example of humanity by rescuing the elderly woman who had been struggling for two days without food or drink.

After this sensitive incident was reported in the media, Berhampur MP Dr. Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi took it seriously. He wrote an official letter (*Ref No: MP/BAM/2026/06-114*) to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, praising the great work of Mayurbhanj Police and Bangiriposhi Police Team.

*In his letter to the Chief Minister, MP Dr. Panigrahi mentioned that:”It is extremely shameful and unfortunate to leave one’s mother to die in the forest at an age when she needs care and attention. But Bangiriposhi Police Station Officer (IIC) Shri Panchanan Mohanty and his police team, as soon as they received the information, immediately rescued the old woman from the forest. Not only that, they immediately admitted her to the hospital and provided her with treatment. After recovering, she was safely placed in the Baripada Old Age Home. Such a service attitude of the police force has further strengthened the rule of law in the society and faith in humanity.”
The MP also praised former IIC Shri Birendra Sahabi for his help in rescuing the elderly woman.

The MPs’ main demands:
1. The Honorable Chief Minister should honor and reward Bangiriposhi IIC Shri Panchanan Mohanty and the entire police team at the government level for this service.
2. Strict legal action should be taken under the ‘Senior Citizens Act’ against the guilty son and family members who threw the birth mother in the forest in such an inhumane manner.
A copy of this letter has also been sent to the Director General of Police (DGP), Mayurbhanj SP, Mayurbhanj District Magistrate and the concerned Bangiriposhi Police Station Officer for their information and necessary action. This step by Mayurbhanj Police has become a topic of discussion across the state today and has been widely appreciated.
