BHUBANESWAR:Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, our government is paying special attention to the mental health, nutrition, skill development and sports of children in school education. Meanwhile, the increasing participation of girls in the country in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education in recent times has become a major strength of the Indian education system, said Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan at an event organized in New Delhi today.
Addressing the 6th ‘Bharat Shiksha Sammelan’ organised by Dainik Jagran Group on Friday, Shri Pradhan said that a new direction is being given to India’s education system through the ‘National Education Policy – 2020’. This new policy emphasizes teaching in the mother tongue at the initial stage and encourages critical thinking and innovation among children. Citing the example of the tradition of Maharishi Valmiki, the Union Minister said that acquiring knowledge in the mother tongue is simpler, more effective and reaches the society at large. This perspective has paved the way for re-establishing the Indian knowledge tradition by moving away from the ‘Maclay mentality’.
Shri Pradhan further said that in today’s AI era, the National Education Policy is further strengthening the skill-based, competitive, multidisciplinary and holistic education system. This will help our youth prepare themselves as per global requirements. We are continuously working towards making the education system ‘competence-based’ and not just ‘degree-based’. The Union Minister said that with this holistic approach, under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, we are rapidly progressing towards the goal of ‘Developed India 2047’. Today, with the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, India is strengthening its role in the global arena and is also successfully fulfilling its responsibility towards the ‘Global South’.
