BHUBANESWAR:The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Regional Office, in collaboration with the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Bhubaneswar, under the aegis of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, organized a Rajbhasha Hindi Workshop today, underscoring the importance of promoting Hindi in official communication and governance.
Presiding over the programme, Shri Akhil Kumar Mishra, Additional Director General, PIB & CBC, highlighted that the promotion of Rajbhasha Hindi is a collective responsibility. He noted that such workshops serve as dynamic platforms for dialogue, coordination, and exchange of ideas among officers and staff of various media units under the Ministry. He emphasized that sustained engagement through these initiatives strengthens the institutional use of Hindi while fostering greater administrative cohesion.
Reflecting on his personal journey, Shri Mishra shared that Hindi has played a significant role in shaping his literary, musical, and communicative pursuits. While expressing deep pride in his mother tongue, Odia, he described Hindi as a vital bridge of national connection and integration. He encouraged officials to progressively increase the use of Hindi in official files, correspondence, and routine administrative work, stressing that consistent and incremental efforts can yield meaningful progress in Rajbhasha implementation.
Dr. Tapan Ranjan Mohanty, Professor of Sociology, elaborated on the pivotal role of language as a medium of social communication. He observed that Hindi effectively connects India’s linguistically diverse population, facilitating interaction across education, employment, and public life. He advocated for its wider use in offices and daily interactions, asserting that languages flourish through regular practice and participatory engagement. He further noted the significant contribution of literature, cinema, and mass media in popularising Hindi and strengthening emotional unity among citizens.
Dr. Nalin Kumar Patra, HoD, Journalism & Mass Communication, BJB Autonomous College emphasized the centrality of communication in governance and public outreach. He remarked that language attains true relevance when it is simple, clear, and people-centric. Highlighting the role of Hindi in public relations and mass communication, he stated that it serves as an accessible medium for disseminating government initiatives effectively to the grassroots, thereby enhancing citizen engagement.
Ms. Kirti Singh, Assistant Director, Department of Official Language, Government of India, underscored Hindi’s role in improving administrative efficiency and outreach. She encouraged officials to adopt simple and functional Hindi in day-to-day work and to leverage training programmes and technological tools to strengthen Rajbhasha implementation.
The workshop featured a range of engaging activities, including Hindi Essay writing and Debate competitions, which saw enthusiastic participation from officers and staff. Interactive sessions, including a question-answer segment and open discussions, provided a valuable forum for sharing insights and best practices on the effective use of Hindi in government offices. The event concluded with the distribution of prizes to competition winners. Officers and Staffs of various media units under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting participated in the workshop.
