BHUBANESWAR:Berhampur MP Dr. Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi has lauded the prompt and courageous steps of the Gajapati district police for successfully rescuing 7 innocent tribal girls who were being trafficked to Hyderabad from Mohana and Adwa areas of Gajapati district. For this successful operation, he has written an official letter to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, honoring the concerned police officers and team at the state level and demanding proper rehabilitation of the victims.

MP Dr. Panigrahi mentioned in his letter that according to media reports (as per the information shown in image.png), 7 tribal girls (6 of whom are minors) from Gajapati district were sold in Hyderabad for Rs. 70,000 on the pretext of employment. There, they were kept in a house and subjected to physical and mental torture.

Gajpati Police was very proactive as soon as the complaint was received regarding this sensitive incident. A police team under the direct supervision of SDPO Rakesh Sahu of R.Udayagiri and led by SI Nalini Kuan immediately visited Hyderabad. With the help of local police, all the 7 girls were rescued safely and the main accused of the human trafficking racket, Sarita Jain of Hyderabad and Elohim Kusulia of Muniguda in Rayagada district, were arrested and charged to court.

Due to this inter-state coordination and swift action by the Gajapati Police, 7 innocent lives have been saved today. Such a dedicated work of the police force is highly commendable. Therefore, the MP has requested the Chief Minister to give recognition and awards at the government level to boost the morale of all the police personnel involved in this operation. He also demanded that the state government, through voluntary organizations and the district administration, make arrangements for proper psychological counseling, treatment and social and developmental rehabilitation of the rescued minor girls and young women.
The MP has also sent a copy of this letter to the Odisha Director General of Police (DGP), Gajapati SP and R. Udayagiri SDPO for their information and necessary action.
