BHUBANESWAR: Parmar Smit Parshottamdas is a 2017-batch IPS officer of the Odisha cadre currently in the spotlight for allegations regarding his conduct as a Police Observer for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has filed a writ petition in the Calcutta High Court alleging an unrecorded, private meeting with a BJP candidate.

He was appointed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) as a Police Observer for four constituencies in South 24 Parganas, including Diamond Harbour.

The TMC alleged he violated electoral neutrality by having an “unofficial, undisclosed, and unrecorded” meeting with a BJP candidate (Gour Sundar Ghosh).

Reports indicate he allegedly stayed at a private hotel (Sagarika Tourist Lodge) in Diamond Harbour rather than his designated official accommodation at the IPS Mess in Alipore.

The petitioner claims to have submitted CCTV footage of the alleged meeting to the Calcutta High Court.

Prior to election duties, he served as Superintendent of Police (SP) for Jharsuguda and later as SP in the Crime Branch. He was promoted to the Junior Administrative Grade (JAG) along with other colleagues.
