BHUBANESWAR:Today i.e, 19-06.2026, a short while ago, Soma Das, Jr.Engineer (JE), GED, Jagatsinghpur has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance *while demanding and taking a bribe of Rs.15,000/- from an executant for preparing estimate to install street lights at a GP under Jagatsinghpur district*.On 08-05-2026, the executant had submitted the letter of the GP authority to Smt. Soma Das, JE for preparation of the estimate for getting the work order in his favour.
In spite of repeated requests by the executant, Smt.Das had kept the estimate pending for no reason. Instead, accused J.E Smt Das demanded bribe Rs.15,000/- from the executant @1% of total estimate of Rs.15 lakhs for the above work. Being aggrieved over the demanded bribe, the executant (Complainant) approached the vigilance authorities narrating harassment by her. Based on this, today, a team of Odisha Vigilance nabbed Smt Das, while taking bribe Rs.15,000/- from the executant in her office chamber. *The entire tainted bribe amount of Rs.15,000/- has been recovered and seized from her possession*.
