CUTTACK/BHUBANESWAR: On the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritaya, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi performed Akhi Muthi Ankul in Cuttack on Monday. It is a traditional agricultural festival that marks the beginning of the Kharif season. Farmers sow seeds in the fields for the first time and pray to God for a good harvest.
The event held at Central Rice Research Institute, Cuttack (CRRI/NRRI/ICAR-CRRI), Vidyadharpur.
Akhi Muthi closely involved in the state-level Farmers’ Day celebrations. The Chief Minister arrived in the morning and participated in the puja-yagna, ploughed the fields and sowed seeds. He did this work in the traditional manner by tying a turban on his head.
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo (KV Singh Deo), Cuttack MP Bharathari Mahatab and many MLAs, ministers and officials were present. Similar programs were held in different districts of the state at that time.
This assistance provided to 41 lakh 68 thousand 582 eligible farmers of the state.
Similarly, a new initiative has been taken to provide quality seeds to farmers by inaugurating ‘Seed on Wheels’ (Agricultural Chariot).
This reflects the government’s commitment to the welfare of farmers while respecting the agricultural tradition of Odisha. It is believed that the work started on Akshaya Vairagya will be successful.
