Gajapati district police achieve success in anti-drug campaign: 2.8 tonnes of ganja seized,District police have seized more than 12 tons of marijuana in the past few days.

CUTTACK/BHUBANESWAR:Gajapati district police have achieved a major success in their anti-marijuana campaign. Police have seized about 2,811 kg (2.8 tonnes) of marijuana in a raid at Karigeju village under Adwa police station. In the last few months, the district police have seized more than 12 tonnes of marijuana in various police station areas.

It is worth mentioning that yesterday morning, a special team led by R. Udayagiri SDPO Shri Rakesh Sahu, IPS, conducted this search operation in the forest and hilly areas near Karigeju village under Adwa police station. During this search operation, a total of 113 plastic bags hidden in them were seized. This huge quantity of ganja has been seized from them. While the accused fled from the spot, investigation is on to identify them and arrest them soon.
In this regard, a case under Section 20(B)(ii)(C) of the NDPS Act has been registered at Adwa Police Station as Case No. 70 (dated 06.04.2026).
It is worth noting that the police have achieved great success against drug trafficking in the Adwa and R. Udayagiri police stations from 18.11.2025 to 06.04.2026. During this period, 11 cases were registered in the Adwa police station area and a total of 9,676 kg of ganja was seized, while in R. Udayagiri police station area, more than 2,825 kg of ganja was seized in 4 cases. In a total of 15 cases, the district police have so far seized more than 12,501 kg (about 12.51 tons) of illegal ganja. Especially, a huge amount of ganja like 4,040 kg was recovered from Keshariguda area, 1,830 kg from Buripadar area and 2,811 kg from Karigeju forest and strict action has been taken against the drug mafia.
It is worth mentioning that a concerted campaign is underway by the state police against marijuana cultivation and illegal trade. Strict steps are being taken at the grassroots level as per the directions of the Director General of Security, Shri Yogesh Bahadur Khurania to eradicate this illegal trade from the state.
