BHUBANESWAR:Focusing on appropriate nutrition, healthy feeding practices, child growth and prevention of malnutrition among children below five years of age, SUM Nursing College (SNC), faculty of nursing of SOA Deemed to be University here, organised a Nutritional Awareness Program at Daruthenga village on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar city on Thursday.

The program, conducted by SNC’s Department of Community Health Nursing, was attended by local women, children, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and the Community Health Officer who took active part in the event held to mark the National Nutrition Week.

SNC’s 1st Year M.Sc. Nursing students, guided by faculty members, presented findings from a nutritional assessment of children aged under-5 and highlighted the importance of balanced nutrition for healthy growth and development in children. A food exhibition and live cooking demonstration were among major attractions of the program. Nutritious, affordable and locally available food items were demonstrated in the program while practical guidance on healthy food preparation and child feeding practices were demonstrated.

Mrs. Manasi Maharana, Community Health Officer, Daruthenga Ayushman Arogya Mandir Sub-Centre at Chandaka, addressed the gathering and highlighted the vital role of families and community health workers in preventing childhood malnutrition.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Tapati Saha, Additional Dean and Head of Department, Community Health Nursing of SNC.
