ANGUL/BHUBANESWAR:Justice has been given in the rape and murder case of a 4-year-old girl in Angul district, which has shocked the state. The Angul Special POCSO Court held a historic hearing and awarded death sentence to the accused Babula Jena. According to reports, this brutal incident took place on March 14, 2025 in Nisha Shilpachal police station area.
The accused Babula Jena kidnapped a tender-hearted girl of just 4 years and 10 months, raped her and brutally murdered her. During the investigation, the police collected a lot of important evidence from the scene and arrested the accused. During the trial, Babula was convicted on the basis of statements of about 25 witnesses and DNA reports along with other forensic evidence.
The Angul Additional District Judge and POCSO Court judge pronounced the sentence as the incident was very heinous and belonged to the ‘Rarest of Rare’ category. Along with the death sentence, a fine has also been imposed on the convicts.
The verdict has brought joy to the family of the girl and the local community. There is talk in the intellectual circles that this harsh decision of the court will serve as a strong warning to criminals in the society.
