NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: With Congress led Oppositions moving impeachment, a Petition filed in the Supreme Court against CEC Gyanesh Kumar in the light of the ‘The Indian Express’ report that various decisions relating to SIR were taken without the concurrence of other two Election Commissioners.
Petitioner seeks a declaration that all those decisions are illegal, and restoration of original FORM 6.Petitioner also seeks an inquiry by a SIT into how 13 crore voters were deleted from the rolls.
The petitioner further seeks prosecution of Gyanesh Kumar, Maneesh Garg IAS, Dy EC, and Seema Khanna, IT Head of ECI, for alleged violation of duties under the RP Act.
The petition relies on documents reported on September 23 showing that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi recorded objections at least 14 times in 10 months over decisions they said were taken without their knowledge or approval.
BJD chief and Odisha LoP Naveen Patnaik says, “Because of the strong differences, the sharp differences between various election commissioners and the Chief Election Commissioner, the Chief Election Commissioner should immediately resign, and the whole SIR process should be thoroughly revisited. The BJD has been against this SIR process from the very beginning.”
“As far as the MMDR Act is concerned, why blame others when twenty MPs from Odisha of BJP supported this bill in Parliament? We will take this up strongly.”
