BHUBANESWAR:There is a provision in the Indian Constitution for the purification of the voter list. That provision is the special intensive revision of the voter list. There is a provision for this to be done under the direct supervision of the Election Commission at specified intervals. Since 1952, such revisions have been done 10 times in the country. For about a year, such SIR work has been started by the Election Commissioner in various states and has almost reached the stage of completion. In such a situation, BJD and Congress are being divided without any information, said State General Secretary Shri Biranchi Narayan Tripathi in a press release.
Shri Tripathi said that at various times, starting from various individuals, some political parties have also approached the Supreme Court regarding this SIR and the Supreme Court has also declared the SIR process as completely valid. In some states like West Bengal, the Hon’ble Supreme Court has also completed this process under its supervision. At that time, many judges from Odisha also went from Odisha to West Bengal to supervise this process. In Odisha, this process has been completed a few days ago. The Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha has held press conferences at various times and presented in detail to the public how many voters have been registered in Odisha, how many have been deleted, why voters have been deleted and how many new ones have been added. But it seems surprising that both the Congress and the BJD have started making statements about an article in a newspaper. If there is any information, then the political parties concerned should approach the Election Commissioner or the Hon’ble Supreme Court with the information.
During the SIR process, all political parties have a system of appointing BLA-1 and BLA-2. They also had a role in the SIR process. The SIR process was going on in Odisha for about six to seven months. During that time, if there was any irregularity at any place, the BJD, Congress and BLA remained silent without complaining. This shows that the BJD and Congress are no longer at the booth level. That is why they could not give BLA-2 or BLA-1, now after all the process is completed, they are making such statements to mislead the public. Both the Congress and the BJD are disturbed by the identity crisis at the grassroots level. They should know that if any eligible voter’s name is deleted in this process, it can be added.
Therefore, the person concerned must be a citizen of India and be above 18 years of age. They can apply to the District Magistrate to include the names without any errors in this list. But the Congress and the BJD are indulging in false drama by not cooperating in this revision process. Due to repeated defeats, both the political parties are suffering from mental depression. Due to this, they are trying to hide their faults and weaknesses after being rejected by the common people and create differences among the public. Making allegations against a constitutional body like the Election Commissioner without any evidence is a deep insult to the Constitution. If there is evidence, then they should be at the door of the Honorable Court and the Election Commission. Playing drama and surrounding the Election Commission office without taking appropriate steps is highly condemnable, said Shri Tripathi.
