BHUBANESWAR:26,600 people applied for 1,109 liquor shops. Out of the 960 shops that were lottery-listed, 50% were won by traders from Bihar.
In 2021, 1,9416 people applied for 1,297 liquor shops. At that time, applicants had to pay Rs 1 lakh for the lottery in the liquor shop license process. Which is non-refundable. That is, if the license is not granted, the money is not refunded. Now it has increased to ₹ 3 lakh!
Out of 50 shops in Bhubaneswar, 22 have gone to traders from Bihar. 28 in Cuttack, 7 in Puri, 10 in Jharsuguda, 18 in Mayurbhanj, 15 in Jajpur, and 9 shopkeepers in Nayagarh have gone to Biharis.
