BHUBANESWAR:The state government has implemented a decision to increase reservation for Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Socially and Educationally Backward Classes in technical education.

From the 2026-27 academic year, enhanced reservation for Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Socially and Educationally Backward Classes will be implemented in engineering, medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, management, computer applications, ITI, polytechnic, agriculture, veterinary medicine, architecture and other technical courses in the state.
– Scheduled Tribe Reservation: 12% to 22.5%
– Scheduled Caste Reservation: 8% to 16.25%
– 11.25% reservation for socially and educationally backward classes for the first time
As per the decision of the state cabinet, a formal memorandum in this regard has been published today. This system will be implemented in all universities, affiliated colleges and technical educational institutions in the state.
This initiative will create more opportunities in higher and technical education and further strengthen social justice and inclusive development.
