BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government has decided to conduct student union elections this year in the higher education institutions of the state under the Higher Education Department.
Student union elections will be held in government universities, colleges, and aided private colleges. After the notification for the student union elections is issued, a meeting was held today regarding the preparations for the elections under the chairmanship of the Commissioner of the Higher Education Department and Principal Secretary Shri Arvinda Agrawal.
The registrars of all universities in the state in the regional medium, the PG Council President, and the principals of colleges were present at the said meeting. In the meeting, Shri Agrawal provided a detailed explanation on the schedule and rules of the student union elections.
Along with this, he issued directives to the principals of colleges, university registrars, and PG Council presidents to ensure the proper supervision of the student union elections. He instructed them to form committees to manage the election process, prepare ballot papers and ballot boxes, and strictly follow all election rules.
Additionally, Secretary Shri Arvind Agrawal expressed the view that a zero-tolerance policy against violence on campus will be adopted. Other senior officials, including the Director of the Higher Education Department Shri Kali Prasanna Mahapatra, were present at today’s meeting.
