NAYAGARH/CUTTACK:A case vide Odagaon PS Case No-123, dtd-11.05.2026 U/s 103 (1)/3 (5) BNS was registered at 06.00 AM, today basing on the report of Sadashiv Sahoo S/o Lt. Muli Sahoo of Vill/PS-Odagaon (Khelapadia sahi), Dist-Naygarh relating to murder of his son Ajit Kumar Sahoo (38) in the night of 10/11.05.2026 at about 01.30 AM.
It is alleged that while Ajit and his friends were standing on road side, six persons including Purnachandra Nayak, Muna Sahoo, Jagannath Panda, Kulu Bhatta came in a white colour Mahindra vehicle came and suddenly attacked them by means of a sword causing severe injuries resulting death of Ajit Kumar Sahoo instantly. After the incident the accused persons fled away from the spot.
During investigation it is ascertained that two 407 trucks loaded with laterite stone pieces were intercepted by deceased Ajit Ku Sahoo and his friend Santosh Kumar Pradhan of Odagaon at Kadalibandh inside a lane in a car of Santosh Kumar Pradhan at about 12.50 AM allegedly to extort money to settle the issue in between the two sides as they are learnt to be in such habit. Soon Dipu@Purnachandra Nayak of Odagaon, truck owner of one of the loaded trucks, reached the spot getting telephonic call from the driver regarding blocking of the truck.
While the discussion was going on between blocking party and owner of the truck, soon the other alleged persons reached there availing a bolero and a motor cycle and all of them came out of the lane to the road, being engaged in heated arguments against the deceased and Santosh. There was tussle between the two groups and suddenly one of the accused brought out a sword from the bolero while another held neck of deceased Ajit with all his might. As Ajit could not resist and fell down, then the accused persons together dealt repeated sword blows on Ajit resulting in severe deep injuries and his right hand was severed from wrist portion.
People got agitated and blocked the road demanding Police actions in this case as well as action against illegal stone quarry. They submitted demand report in this connection.In this case Police utilized the services of scientific team. Conducted inquest over the dead body and dead body was sent to DHH for PM examination by a team of doctors. IGP, Central Range, Cuttack Dr Satyajit Naik and SP, Nayagarh visited the spot to assess the situation.
Several Police teams have been formed by SP, Nayagarh to identify the accused persons, to locate them and to arrest them early. One special team in coordination with District Mining Officers and other concerned Revenue Officials will be entrusted with the task of curbing down the menace of illegal stone quarry and its transportations. The police team started efforts for the apprehension of accused persons involved in this case out of which two persons have already been apprehended.
