PURI:Murder Case – Baliapanda PS Case No. 164/26* *Date: 24.06.2026 |*
1. *Incident Details*
At around 01:00 AM on 24.06.2026, information was received regarding a murder at Hotel Manorama, Dhabalaswar Road, under Baliapanda Police Station, Puri.
The deceased has been identified as Shri Pabitra Nayak, aged 45 years.
2. *Police Action & Case Registration*
On receipt of information, police teams immediately reached the spot and commenced investigation.
In this connection, *Baliapanda PS Case No. 164/26* has been registered. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the death was caused due to a violent assault.
3. *Identification & Apprehension of Accused*
Based on credible evidence and swift investigation, the prime accused was identified as:
Chandan Kumar Palar, aged 27 years
Acting on reliable intelligence, a special team led by the IIC, Baliapanda Police Station, launched an operation to apprehend the accused.
4. *Encounter & Arrest*
At approximately 08:30 AM on 24.06.2026, during the operation in the Matamatha Kaju Forest area, the accused attempted to evade arrest and opened fire on the police team, posing an imminent threat to the lives of police personnel.
In exercise of the right to private defence and to neutralize the threat, police resorted to one round of controlled firing. The accused sustained a bullet injury to his left leg, was immediately overpowered, taken into custody, and shifted for medical treatment.
5. *Status of Investigation*
Further investigation is underway to establish the complete sequence of events, the motive behind the crime, and to ascertain any possible involvement of other persons.
