BHUBANESWAR: Case Reference: Saheednagar PS Case no 600 dt. 21.12.2022 u/s 392 IPC.
Brief of the Case:
Investigating a series of Gold chain snatching cases on street/road of Bhubaneswar city, commissionerate police Bhubaneswar successfully busted and nabbed a well organised interstate gang involved in this crime. In india this gang is notoriously called as “IRANI GANG” spreading their network from Karnatak to Odisha, Andhra, Madhyapradesh and other states.
Gang & M.O: Generally the members of this gang are active in states like Karnatak, Andhrapradesh, Madhyapradesh, Chhatisgarh and particularly in Nuapada, Bolangir and Jharsuguda districts of Odisha. They usually move in splinter groups having Two to Four members mostly using motorcycle. They target ladies wearing gold chains and ornaments and availing public road.
Using different motorcycles within no time they snatched away gold chain/ornaments and abscond from the spot. In a day they can commit a series of crime and dispose the robbed articles at Khariar Road, Junk of Odisha and Raipur of Chhatisgarh. They don’t have any particular place of stay and it is difficult to track them after commission of crime. Their other M.O. is approaching shopkeepers to purchase article and after distracting the vision of shopkeeper they commit theft from the cash box. Generally in transit they use railway stations, bus stand and road side abandon houses for their temporary stay. They also took a plea of selling Gem stones and spectacles and stay outside of the city.
Other state police have been informed to collect the C/A of the accused persons and their involvement in other cases so also the other districts of our state has also been informed to provide information regarding such crime. So far information received they are involved in snatching cases of Puri, Bhadrak, Jajpur districts and cases of Cuttack City. Effort is on to nab other gang members and recovery of more stolen property.

3. Kismat Ali (32), S/O-Manwar Ali, (Gang member)
At-Nurani Chowk, Khariyar Road, PS-Junk, Dist-Nuapada.
4. Sikandar Ali (29), S/O-Liyakat Ali, (Gang Member)
At-Nurani Chowk, Khariyar Road, PS-Junk, Dist-Nuapada.
Articles seized:
1. 17 Nos of Gold Chain weighing about 200gms.
2. 05 Nos of Motorcycle used for snatching.
3. 03 Nos of Mobile Phones.
