BHUBANESWAR/KENDRAPARA: It seems, the frequent visits by Kendrapara Collector Samartha Verma and SP Niti Sekhar to Rajkanika block under Aul Assembly seat, held by all powerful, Pratap Keshari Deb, have no impact.  Corrupt officials with help of local political leaders, are now calling the shorts if someone looks into the recent raids and arrests by the Vigilance Department manned by able Director Dr Debasish Panigrahi and his deputy IGP Ganshyama Upadhaya.

Months after the crorepati ASI of Rajkanika Police Station in Kendrapara district, Baishnab Behera trapped by Vigilance, the anti-corruption wing on sleuths Monday arrested Anita Tarai, Revenue Inspector (RI), Baradia Revenue Circle in under the same block of the district for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 5000.

According to reports, the RI had demanded the amount from one Sabita Mallick of Gualigaon village in order to submit a report on a disputed land as directed by Tehsildar, Rajkanika.Mallick lodged a complaint in this regard with the anti-corruption agency, following which a trap was laid and Tarai was caught red-handed by the Vigilance sleuths while accepting the money from the complainant. The bribe amount was recovered from the RI while further investigation was underway.

On September 3, this year, ASI Baishnab Behera had caught red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 5000.Behera had demanded Rs 5000 from one Dibakar Sethi of Gokarneswar village under Rajkanika Police limits to help the complainant and to eliminate the name of his (complainant) brother and sister-in-law from the Charge Sheet in Rajkanika PS Case No.123/20.A Case No (11/ 2020) was registered.

Backed by 5T , Vigilance Department giving sleepless nights to corrupted mandarins manning Block, Tehsil, Panchayat Office and other Government establishments in Rajkanika while similar raids demanded in neighbouring Aul block, the home turf of local MLA Pratap Deb to flush out the corrupted elements.

Local political leaders have their field day in twin blocks making the administration totally defunct and corrupt, sources said. Vigilance Department sources however said, similar raids will continue to nab other under scanners. Locals alleged that the 5T has no impact in twin blocks of Aul and Rajkanika while corrupt officials and local political leaders have the last laugh. Even to file an FIR at a Police Station in twin blocks, requires consent of local leaders, sources said.
