BHUBANESWAR:A large quantity of Maoist arms and explosives have been seized from the Kirmiti and Katuapadar forest areas under Maithili police station in Malkangiri district. The arms and explosives were seized during a joint combing operation by DVF and BSF jawans based on information received from surrendering Maoists.
The seized items include 1 INSAS LMG, 2 INSAS rifles, 2 IEDs (Tiffin Bomb) of 1 kg each, 1 IED of 8 kg each, 1 grenade, 18 detonators, one magazine, wireless remote switch, walkie-talkie, solar plate, electric wire, Roots device, printer cartridge, disposable syringe, bundle gauze and cotton, polythene tent, empty detonator caps, crackers, gunpowder, codex wire, cage splinter, saline bottle, saline pipe and other equipment.
According to preliminary investigation, the police suspect that all these items may have belonged to Maoist cadres of (AOBSZC).
It is suspected that these weapons and explosives were intended to be used for attacks and acts of sabotage against civilians and security forces. The police are investigating this matter.
Such operations will continue in the coming days to rid Odisha of Maoists and suppress Maoist activities.
