Dearth of Odia IPS Officers at State Police Headquarters’ Hits Grievance Redressal

BHUBANESWAR:  With Non-Odia IPS Officers are now holding all most all important portfolios, general public, especially Odia speaking, are facing hardship during redressal of grievances due to the scarcity of Odia IPS officers in the State police headquarters in Cuttack, sources said.

Apart from DGP SK Bansal, many Non-Odia IPS Officers like Additional DG of Police (Law & Order), Radha Kishan Sharma, Sanjay Kumar is Additional DG of Police (Modernisation). M.K. Chhabra, Director General of Prisons and Director, Correctional Services, Vinaytosh Mishra, Director, SCRB, Arun Bothra, Addl. D.G of Police, CID CB, many non-Odia IPS Officers are working with important positions.

Similarly, Yatindra Koyal, who recently returned from central deputation, is the IG of Police (Provisioning) while S. Praveen is IGP (Personnel). But no Odia IPS officer has been appointed to head any portfolio. S. Dev Datta Singh is presently IG of Police(Headquaters).

Sources said, generally, Additional DG and IG rank officers address the grievances of people in the absence of DGP. Here the non-Odia IPS officers are consulting with their subordinates to address grievances of people as they are not quite familiar with the Odia language.

Reports said, Additional SP, DSP and Inspector rank officers are working as translators for the IPS officers at the police headquarters, following which people are facing problem in expressing their problems properly.
