BHUBANESWAR:A 7-year-old girl, a Class II student of Demonstration Multipurpose (DM) School, Regional Institute of Education, Bhubaneswar, who is mentally challenged, was reported missing from the school premises at around 1:20 PM today (29.07.26). It was reported to police at around 4.30pm.
On receipt of the information, Shaheed Nagar Police immediately reached the spot and launched a comprehensive search operation. Police teams were deployed from headquarter also to trace the child. CCTV footage was examined. All PCRs were alerted.
CCTV footage revealed that the girl managed to come out of the school before school closing time and was seen moving alone towards Children Park, Police line. During enquiry, it was found that girl’s Mamu (maternal uncle) is a constable posted in police line. During search of the campus, the girl’s body was found in an open water fountain (containing around 4-5 feet water, due to incessant rain over the last few days). The body was immediately shifted to the capital hospital, where the child was declared as brought dead.
Inquest and post mortem shall be conducted. Prima facie, it seems to be case of accidental drowning. However, it shall be confirmed only after the post mortem report.
