BHUBANESWAR:A significant contribution in the field of human body preservation science (plastination), ‘Preserving Anatomy: The World of Plastination’, written by Dr. Shishir Kumar, was formally launched recently by Professor (Dr.) Manojranjan Nayak, Founder President of Shishirka Pustakash SOA (Shiksha ‘o’ Teorgaon).
Professor Dr. Shishir Kumar, Department of Anatomy, Institute of Medical Sciences and Sam Hospital, SoA, has presented a comprehensive book on the scientific process of plastination, its multifaceted applications in education, research and body science studies. Professor Nayak hopes that it will serve as a useful reference book for medical students, teachers, researchers and practitioners working in the field of anatomy.
The book’s title chapter, ‘Research Applications of Plastination’, has been written by Professor (Dr) Sujata Pradhan, Head, Department of Reproductive Medicine and Surgery, IMS & Sam Hospital. It highlights various applications and possibilities of plastination technology in the field of research.
Dr. Shishir Kumar received advanced training at the Biodur GmbH Center for Plastination in Heidelberg, Germany. He has specialized expertise in this field, having received direct training from members of the team of Dr. Gunther von Hagens, the pioneer of plastination science.
Professor (Dr.) Pradeep Kumar Nanda, Vice Chancellor of SOAR, and Shri Debaprasad Dash, Director, IMS & Sam Hospital, Campus-3, Berhampur, were present on the occasion.
