BHUBANESWAR: World First Aid Day is celebrated worldwide on the second Saturday of September to create public awareness about saving the lives of accident-affected, injured or sick patients. This year’s theme is “Easily getting assistance and primary treatment for migrants and refugees during their journey in search of livelihood”. Every year, injured people die.
In accordance with the Ambulance Division of the local Accountant General’s (AG) office and in collaboration with the Government ANM Training Institute, Tridha Nursing Division of the Capital Hospital, volunteers from various schools, colleges, CISF and voluntary organizations of Khordha district were trained on simple life-saving skills on the occasion of World First Aid Day.
On the occasion of World First Aid Day, in a workshop and seminar held under the chairmanship of Dr. Laxmipriya Mishra, Chairman of ANM Training Institute, Dr. Pramod Kumar Mahapatra, former Additional District Health Officer of the Directorate of Ayush, Chief Guests, Joint Secretary of Khordha District St. John Ambulance Purushottam Bala, Divisional Commander of Tridha Ambulance Division Ms. Sanjita Mohapatra, Senior Instructors of ANM Training Institute Gitanjali Roy, Mira Baral, Parvati Kumari Swain, Arnapura Sahu, Training Instructor of St. John Ambulance Dr. Namita Patnaik, Professors of Rajdhani College Dr. Abhipsa Bala, Kadambini Das and Dr. Professor Satyajit Sahu were the guests of honour.
They highlighted how an eyewitness present in an emergency and critical situation before medical help arrives can save the life of an injured patient and how every second is important and valuable for the injured person who is fighting for life and death. They emphasized on how ANMs can save the lives of mothers and babies in emergency situations in the village or in the maternity hospital.
In the training programs held on different days, students, government Various competitions were organized on first aid, with trainers training staff, volunteers and the public on simple first aid skills including CPR, stopping bleeding, treating broken bones and safely transporting the patient.
