BHUBANESWAR: The administrative system in Odisha has become a shameless farce today. Where the common man is chasing after office day after day for government services, by what magic has the government installed a person in three important powerful posts like BDO, Tehsildar and Sub-Registrar?
This is not just an administrative error, it is a despicable conspiracy to commit a scam in the dark. Take the case of BDO Rabi Narayan Acharya, has recently been at the center of a major local controversy involving a violent clash and public allegations. Rabi Narayan Acharya , is BDO, Tehsildar and Sub-Registrar for Mahakalpada.
Videos of the clash inside the BDO’s chamber have been widely broadcasted by news channels. After keeping quiet for over a week, BDO Rabi Narayan Acharya broke his silence to release his official statement and version of events to the public.
Tikhiri Gram Panchayat Sarpanch Chameli Ojha and her brother were arrested by the police following an official complaint filed by BDO Rabi Narayan Acharya. Later Ojha released from Jail. The BDO alleged that the Sarpanch and her associates verbally abused him, obstructed him from discharging his official duties, and illegally recorded videos inside his office. He also claimed two police personnel were assaulted during the incident
What is the agenda behind this strange appointment? Is there a dearth of OAS officers in the state? Or is this a ‘corruption corridor’ designed to give free rein to some influential person to launder money? It doesn’t take an expert to understand how transparency is sacrificed when all the power is in one hand.
If a person like Acharya is a Tehsildar, he also works as a Sub-Registrar and a Videographer, then who will keep an eye on him? Isn’t this directly encouraging corruption?
Death of public service: While the responsibilities of three departments are being fulfilled, no single department is doing the right thing. As a result, the common man is forced to go to table after table and end up handing over money to the middlemen.
Administrative efficiency or inefficiency? Is this ‘overloading’ drama of government officials just to protect their own cronies? This is not government corruption, it is systematic looting.
This decision of the government makes it clear that they have no concern for the welfare of the people. If a person is given so much power, then every signature and decision made during his tenure must be investigated. Government should stop this game. Appoint independent and competent officers for every post. Otherwise, the people will surely take to the streets to pay the price for this government loot.
