BHUBANESWAR:A stakeholder consultation and kick-off meeting to prepare the master plan for the proposed New City in Bhubaneswar was held at Kharawela Bhawan on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Usha Padhi, Additional Chief Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department.
The master plan is being prepared by Singapore’s Surban Jurong Infrastructure Private Limited (SJI). The market feasibility study for the project has already been completed with the help of world-renowned consultancy firm JLL.
The “New City Development” project was first approved by the state cabinet in September 2025. The modern city will be built on about 800 acres of land (Gothapatna, Malipada and Daspur mouzas) within the Bhubaneswar Development Plan Area (BDPA).
New City will be built as a transit-oriented city. It will have housing for people of all income groups, good transportation, short commute distances, and integrated land use.
The city will have MICE facilities, innovation hubs, data management centres, central groves, gateway plazas and extensive public spaces.
This will enhance people-to-people connectivity and bring the city to life, said Additional Chief Secretary Usha Padhi.
On this occasion, BDA Vice President Chanchal Rana said that in the coming months, more consultation meetings will be held with local representatives, hotels, real estate and other stakeholders from the transportation sector. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of this project will be ready within 9 months.
Representatives from SJI and JLL and various officials from the departments of Forest, Works, IT, Industries, etc. were present in the meeting.
