BHUBANESWAR:On 29th September 2026, acting upon credible information regarding the illegal transportation of contraband ganja through Train No. 22866 Puri–LTT Express, a joint checking operation was conducted by RPF and GRP.
During the checking, five persons were apprehended while carrying contraband ganja concealed in 07 trolley bags and 01 backpack. On examination and search, a total of 115.930 Kgs of ganja, having an approximate market value of ₹57,96,500/-, was recovered and seized.
The apprehended persons were identified as:
1. Sajid Ali Abdul Saqur Mariyar, resident of Mumbai, Maharashtra.
2. Jitendra Ramesh Thakur, resident of Mumbai, Maharashtra.
3. Tanbir Yaqub Chagule, resident of Mumbai, Maharashtra.
4. Ahmed Raza Siddique, resident of Mumbai, Maharashtra.
5. Abhisek Kumar, resident of Patna, Bihar.
During interrogation, the apprehended persons disclosed that they had come to Bhubaneswar for procuring ganja and were allegedly carrying the contraband towards Mumbai for further disposal.
The accused persons were detained at Cuttack Railway Station, where their personal search and search of the bags containing the suspected contraband were conducted in accordance with due procedure in the presence of the nominated G.O, Shri S.K. Choudhury, ASC/RPF, Khordha Division, and independent witnesses. The seized contraband was duly weighed, packed, labelled and documented as per legal procedure.
After completion of the necessary legal formalities, the five accused persons along with the seized contraband and relevant documents were produced before GRPS/Cuttack by Inspector Aparesh Behera, CIB/RPF/Khordha.
In this connection, GRPS/Cuttack has registered Case No. 224/2026 dated 30.09.2026 under Sections 20(b)(ii)(C) and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Inspector U.K. Biswal GRPS/Khordha, is conducting the investigation. Further investigation is in progress to ascertain the source of the contraband, the persons involved in its procurement and supply, and the intended recipients/disposal network.
Further investigation and necessary legal action are underway.
