Works Secretary Dr Krishan Kumar Reviews Biju Expressway Progress in Western Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to implement vision of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, of seamless connectivity in western Odisha , State’s Works Secretary , Dr Krishan Kumar has r implementation strategy and pre-construction planning for 4 new stretches of Biju Expressway in western districts of Nuapada and Kalahandi District.

“To implement the vision of Hon’ble @CMO_Odisha of seamless connectivity in western Odisha  @Krishan_Kumar09, Commissioner-cum-Secretary @PWD_Odisha reviewed implementation strategy & pre-construction planning for 4 new stretches of Biju Expressway in Nuapada & Kalahandi District,” Works Department, Odisha tweeted @PWD_Odisha.

For each stretch, a nodal person from Public Works Department and Superintending Engineer have been assigned to review the project weekly and provide all possible support to the executing agencies to complete the project by December 2022, the Department said.

Sources quoting Works Secretray Dr Kumar said “ Emphasis was placed on creating a dedicated team to monitor the construction progress of the bridges, including timely procurement of materials, deployment of machinery & on-site mobilization of manpower by 1st October,”.

Biju Expressway is a dual carriageway in the State  with a total length of 650 km. It starts at Chandili (border village in Koraput district) and goes on to touch border towns/market centres such as Kotpad, Boriguma, Nabarangpur, Papadahandi, Ambapani, Godbhanja, Dharmagarh, Sinapalli, Bhella, Nuapada, Paikamal, Padampur, Sohela, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh before ending at Rourkela. The main expressway is between Vedvyas and Sambalpur.

The Biju Expressway contains three toll gates. The first one is 6 km before Rajgangpur Bypass.The second tollgate is at Masunikani and the third gate is at Rengali. The maximum capable speed limit of L&T SRTL (Larsen & Toubro Sambalpur Rourkela Tollway Limited) is 160 km/h between the 163km stretch from Vedvyas to Rengali.
