Water inflow in Hirakud Dam- Baitarani-Brahamani Rivers start receding, says Odisha SRC

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Special Relief Commissioner, Pradeep Kumar Jena was on Sunday informed that Water inflow in Hirakud Dam shown in decline mode. Quoting a report from @dm_jharsuguda, SRC Jena tweeted @PradeepJenaIAS “ Weather is sunny in the entire district, back water of Hirakud dam reservoir starts receding,”.

SRC Jena in another tweet also informed that water level in Baitarani and Brahmani river system has also on decline mode.

Sources said the inflow on Sunday at 4 am was 8,02,598 cusecs in comparison to 8,85,291 cusecs on Saturday.  The outflow, meanwhile, has increased to 7,64,479 cusecs which were 6,94,704 cusecs on Saturday.

Meanwhile, 46 sluice gates remained open on Sunday in order to release the excess floodwater. The water level of the reservoir stands at 627.85 feet as against its full capacity of 630 feet.

Expected peak flood flow will be about 10 lakh cusecs at Munduli which may continue for a day till tomorrow forenoon due to continuous very high inflow (of floodwater) for a long duration from Chhattisgarh, informed Jena.

As such the floods in Odisha have already affected 8 lakh people and killed 16 people so far while damaging 8,000 houses and damaging crops in over 3 lakh hectare of land.
