BHUBANESWAR/NEW DELHI: While asking BJP State unit President Samir Mohanty to bring his party MLAs in order and at least take steps, so that the Saffron Law makers shall abide by the COVID-19 guidelines issued jointly by the Union Health and Home Ministries as well as Odisha Government, BJD Rajya Sabha MP and National spokesperson, Dr Sasmit Patra was on Wednesday strongly condemned BJP leaders for supporting  party MLAs for violating COVID norms.

“People of Sambalpur and rest of Odisha were on Tuesday witnessed how BJP MLA Jayanarayan Mishra openly defied shutdown,” MP Dr Patra said. Dr Patra said Mishra is currently out on bail in a murder case and added that his continued misbehaviour during the COVID pandemic is extremely unfortunate. The BJD spokesperson said as the State President of BJP he should have strongly condemned this misconduct by his party MLA.

Dr Patra said they should rather support  Odisha government and the Centre in the fight against COVID pandemic. He said grievances can be voiced in a different manner, but in the pandemic time, the leaders must abide by the COVID norms of the betterment of the society.

It may be noted here that MLA Mishra along with Rengali MLA Nauri Nayak had gone to present a memorandum to Sambalpur collector on the healthcare scenario of the district relating to COVID and non-COVID treatment. They had demanded that the government should provide 30 ICUs as promised and make necessary treatment facility for non-COVID patients.

Mishra marched to Sambalpur Collectorate with over 100 people despite COVID restrictions. He further threatened and misbehaved with the ADM who has been working hard to manage COVID situation in the district.
