BHUBANESWAR:Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan has thanked Hon’ble Prime Minister Modi and Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwani Baishnab for approving the doubling project of the 74 km Paradip-Haridaspur railway line in Odisha in the meeting of the Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This mega project, which will be implemented in a fully government-funded and self-financed mode, will cost an estimated Rs 2542 crore. On this occasion, Union Minister Shri Pradhan said that under the ‘Purrada Doya’ mission of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, priority is being given to the development of railway infrastructure in Odisha. This doubling project will significantly increase the railway capacity in the Haridaspur-Paradip section, due to which a larger number of passenger and freight trains can run smoothly on this route. This improvement in the transport system will further strengthen the overall economy of the state.
Shri Pradhan further stated that this project will prove to be a game-changer for Paradip Port, the heart of Odisha’s commercial progress. The increased rail capacity will significantly accelerate the movement of import-export cargo and domestic coastal freight through Paradip Port. This will go a long way in achieving the port’s target cargo throughput and will also generate huge direct and indirect employment in the local area. He asserted that this timely decision will play a major role in regional socio-economic growth.
