ANGUL/BHUBANESWAR: With Naveen Jindal led Jindal Steel & Power’s Coal Gasification plant at coal bearing Angul in Odisha drawing global attention, Union Coal Secretary Shri Amrit Lal Meena flanked by JSP Chairman Naveen Jindal and Coal India Ltd’s Chairman Shri Pramod Agarwal , have paid a visit to the plant site and witnessed on-going expansion work and functioning of the plant.
Both Union Coal Secretary Meena and CIL Chairman Agarwal lauded JSP Chairman Naveen Jindal for this historic initiative for Steel making.Vice Chairman of JSP Advisory Group Mr. VR Sharma, CEO of JSP Mr. Dinesh Kumar Saraogi, ED Mr. Damodar Mittal and other officials were also present during the visit.
JSP’s plant at Angul in Odisha, is the world’s first and largest coal gasification plant for steelmaking. JSP aims to expand the Angul steel plant’s capacity from 6 MTPA to 25.2 MTPA by 2030 ,which will be the largest Plant in the World in a single location as per present capacities.
‘Coal Gasification is the future of Coal; it will help in import substitution and make India self-reliant in energy resources while reducing JSP’s carbon footprint. The visit of Coal Secretary and Chairman CIL is deeply motivating for staffs, workers, employees and officials Jindal Steel & Power, sources said.

JSP commissioned the Coal Gasification Plant of 225,000 Normal Meter Cubed per Hour capacity in 2014, which is a milestone for global steel the company.
The CGP uses high ash coal which is predominantly available in the vicinity of the Project site. The Coal-Gasification Plant set up by Jindal Steel & Power at Angul has become a ‘Technology Demonstrator’ and is frequently visited by national and international dignitaries and organizations. Students from Harvard University and MIT visited the CGP and wrote out an in-depth case study on it.
