Union Coal Secretary Anil Jain visits JSPL’s Coal Gasification Plant in Angul

ANGUL/BHUBANESWAR: Union Coal Secretary Anil Kumar Jain has paid a visit to Naveen Jindal led Jindal Steel and Power Limited’s Angul facility in Odisha and held discussion with Company officials over coal gasification plant in Angul. JSPL’s plant is World’s 1st plant supplying Syn. Gas to DRI Plant.

India aims for 100 million tonnes (MT) coal gasification by 2030 with investments worth over Rs. 4 lakh Crores. The Government has provided for a concession of 20% on revenue share of coal used for gasification. Coal Gasification and Liquefaction are well in the government’s agenda and various actions have been taken for development of Surface Coal Gasification in India, Coal Ministry officials said.

“Coal gasification is going to be the path-breaking process to make India Atamnirbhar in Energy. Coal Secy. Sh. AK Jain visited @JSPLCorporate coal gasification plant at Angul. This is the world’s first plant supplying Syn. Gas to DRI plant,” JSPL tweeted @JSPLCorporate.

JSPL operates the world’s first coal gasification based DRI plant of 2.0 million tonne capacity at Angul in Odisha, where syngas is used to make direct-reduced iron (DRI) or sponge iron, an input required in the steel-making process. JSPL’s coal gasification plant capacity is 225,000 NM3 per hour of syngas, which is supporting the 2.0 million MT of syngas based DRI plant.

JSPL Chairman Naveen Jindal has been continued to peruse  JSPL’s plan to expand the Angul steel plant’s capacity from 6 MTPA to 25.2 MTPA by 2030 ,which will be the largest Plant in the World in a single location as per present capacities.
