BHUBANESWAR:  With Sanjeev Satpathy Additional DCP, Special Crimes Unit taking the lead, specialised crime and criminals are now spending sleepless nights.  In an unyielding pursuit to eradicate the narcotics trade within the twin city under the Commissionerate Police’s vigilant watch, the Special Crime Unit (SCU)successfully unearthed an organized gang of brown sugar dealers, primarily traced to the Balasore region.

Two individuals engaged in the illicit drug trade have been apprehended, and a significant 660 grams of brown sugar, valued at Rs 66 Lakhs, hasbeen seized, along with the vehicle employed for transportation. A case has been registered under various sections of the NDPS Act and is currently under active investigation.

Operation and Investigation: The narcotics wing of the SCU, led by Additional DCP Sanjeev Satpathy, Inspector Santosini Behera, and SI Tapan Swain, executed a meticulously planned operation. Their primary objective was to monitor and curtail the illegal trafficking ofbrown sugar within the twin city. The dedicated team vigilantly tracked the illicit tradewithin the city.

Acting on credible intelligence regarding the transportation of a substantial quantity of brown sugar via a Bolero pick-up from Jaleshwar to Khurdha, passing through Bhubaneswar, the team successfully intercepted the vehicle on NH 16 flyover at CRP crossing on 17.12.2023. Two suspects were apprehended, and found in exclusive possession of 660 grams of brown sugar, valued at approximately 66 Lakhs.

The arrested individuals believed to be habitual drug dealers, hail from the Jaleshwar and Basta areas of the Balasore district. They are suspected to be part of a network involved in transporting these dangerous substances for financial gain, from Jaleswar to the Khurdha area.

The accused will be presented before the court today, seeking police remand for further investigation into their involvement, the potential complicity of other suspects, and the financial aspects of this case.
