2006 -ArcelorMittal signs MoU for 12 MTPA steel plant in Keonjhar, Odisha.
2013 -ArcelorMittal withdraws from the Odisha project after delays over land acquisition and raw-material linkage.
Mar 2021 -AM/NS signs MoU for a 12 MTPA steel plant at Kendrapara, Odisha.
Dec 2021 – Odisha approves AM/NS’s revised 24 MTPA Kendrapara project, investment ₹1.02 lakh crore.
Oct 2022 – AM/NS begins ₹60,000 crore Hazira expansion, taking capacity from 9 → 15 MTPA.
Sept 2024 – AM/NS announces plans for Hazira to reach 24 MTPA by 2030, potentially making it the world’s largest single-site coastal steelmaking facility.

As of March 2026, the status is
Project: 24 MTPA integrated steel plant at Mahakalapada, Kendrapara, Approved: December 17, 2021, by Odisha HLCA, Investment: ₹1,02,275 crore
Land: Acquisition is underway through IDCO. The government notified acquisition of 383 acres in the first phase in December 2024; verification began in May 2025.
