BHUBANESWAR:Principal Secretary, Water Resources Department, Ms. Shubha Sharma today visited Munduli  and Naraj Barrage to review the floodwater flow and water management system in the Mahanadi River during the recent floods.

Ms. Sharma reviewed the status of flood water flowing through the Mahanadi river system at Mundli Weir and its controlled drainage system. She discussed with the concerned officials for proper management of flood water keeping in view the water level of the river, flow conditions and safety of the downstream areas.
Later, Ms. Sharma visited the Naraj Barrage and reviewed the management and monitoring system of the barrage gates through the modern SCADA system installed in the barrage control room. The SCADA system enabled real-time monitoring of the barrage gates, accurate assessment of water flow and efficiency of gate management.
The barrage gates are being operated based on continuous analysis of floodwater flow, upstream and downstream conditions and scientific data. All field officers and engineers have been directed to be on full alert to ensure safe and orderly discharge of floodwaters, keeping public safety as the top priority.
