‘Odia Journalist Day” celebrated on the occasion of the death anniversary of the late scholar Vichitrananda Das

BHUBANESWAR:On 4.8.2026, the state’s leading cultural organization Vishwa Odia Family organized Odia Journalist Day on the occasion of the death anniversary of the leader Late Vichitrananda Das at the central office in the local IRC Village.

In this context, a discussion titled ‘My Language, My Responsibility’ was organized. Presiding over the program, Vishwa Odia Family President Sajjan Sharma highlighted the timeless role of Vichitrananda in the Odia language movement. Especially mentioning the first newspaper of Odisha, Ukral Deepika, it was a major message in awakening the cultural consciousness of Odisha language.

Senior journalist Sriram Das said that the role of Odia journalists in protecting the language in Odisha is unparalleled. Eminent administrator and linguist Dadtar Moronjat Panigrahi said that Odisha language is one of the most ancient languages. It is necessary to take a plan on how our future generations will be careful to protect our language. Shritam Dash, a descendant of tribal leader Vichitrananda and a famous film star, said in his speech that ‘Odia’s responsibility towards the sustainability of language and literature’. Especially the Odias living abroad and their next generation will be proud to use Odia language. We have to pay attention to that. The speakers gave thoughtful opinions on the protection, prosperity and expansion of Odia language.
