BHUBANESWAR/NAYAGARH:Odagaon PS Case No. 123 dated 11.05.2026 U/s 103(1)/3(5) BNS.Name of the Complainant: Sri Sadashiv Sahoo (63), S/o Late Muli Sahoo of Vill/PS- Odagaon (Khelapadia Sahi), Dist- Nayagarh.
It is alleged in the FIR that, while deceased Ajit Sahoo and his friend, namely Santosh Kumar Pradhan, were standing on the roadside at Kadalibandha at about 1:30 AM on the night of 10/11.05.2026, six persons including 1) Purna Chandra Nayak @ Dipu, S/o Bhikari Nayak of village/PS- Odagaon, 2) Muna Sahoo, S/o Late Gurubari Sahoo of village Ranganipatana (Totasahi), PS- Odagaon, 3) Jagannath Panda, S/o Biswanath Panda of village Ruhibanka (Baghuachhak), PS- Odagaon, and 4) Sridhar Sahoo, uncle of Kulu Bhatta, came in a white-coloured Mahindra vehicle and suddenly attacked his son, namely Ajit Kumar Sahoo, by means of deadly weapons like swords, causing severe injuries and resulting in the instantaneous death of Ajit Kumar Sahoo. The incident occurred in the presence of Santosh Kumar Pradhan, who also fell down due to their attack. After committing the brutal assault resulting in the death of Ajit Sahoo, the accused persons fled away from the spot.
Facts Ascertained During Investigation So Far:
During the course of investigation, it was ascertained that two 407 trucks loaded with laterite stone pieces were intercepted by Santosh Kumar Pradhan and his friend Ajit Kumar Sahoo (deceased), who were travelling in Santosh Kumar Pradhan’s car at Kadalibandha at about 12:50 AM, allegedly to extort money in order to settle the issue relating to illegal transportation of laterite stones, which they were reportedly in the habit of doing since long.
Accused Dipu @ Purna Chandra Nayak of Odagaon, being the owner of one of the 407 trucks bearing Registration No. OD-02-BF-2984, received telephonic intimation from his driver regarding the blocking of the vehicle by the above-mentioned Santosh and Ajit and reached the said lane in his Honda Amaze car bearing Registration No. OD-05-AS-6999. There was a heated argument among them.
While the discussions over money settlement was going on, the other accused persons namely 1) Jagannath Panda, S/o Biswanath Panda, accompanied by his associates namely accused Mohanta Nayak, S/o Sahita Nayak of Ruhibanka (Dhabasahi), PS- Odagaon, Manas Behera (23), S/o Gourav Behera of Mahapurasahi, PS- Odagaon, Sridhara Sahoo, S/o Late Dharam Sahoo, his nephew Kullu @ Rabindra Bhatta, S/o Late Bhagaban Bhatta of Bhadikila, PS- Odagaon, and Muna Sahoo, S/o Late Gurubari Sahoo, arrived there in a Mahindra TUV and a motorcycle.
It is learnt that, due to repeated obstructions in the illegal stone business of Jagannath Panda and Purna Chandra Nayak, they bore a grudge against Santosh Kumar Pradhan and deceased Ajit Kumar Sahoo. Also it is learnt that earlier the deceased Ajit Kumar Sahoo had beaten up Manas over dispute of money settlement over illegal mining transportation as well for which he and others had earlier decided to take revenge on them whenever they got an opportunity.
On seeing the arrival of the accused persons, deceased Ajit Sahoo and Santosh Kumar Pradhan came out of the lane leading to the main road while being engaged in heated arguments with the above-noted accused persons. There was a tussle and altercation between the two groups.
As per their common intention, Mohanta Nayak caught hold of Ajit by the neck and pressed it down to the ground. At the instigation of Jagannath Panda, Kullu Bhatta, Purna Chandra Nayak, and others, accused Manas Behera brought out a sword from the Mahindra TUV. The accused persons together dealt repeated sword blows on Ajit, resulting in severe deep injuries to both his hands. The right hand of deceased Ajit was totally severed from the wrist portion while his left hand was partially severed, and he died on the spot.
Thereafter, the accused persons fled away from the spot and concealed the weapon of offence, i.e., the sword, in a jungle between Abhimanpur and Bhapur under Fategarh PS.
Action Taken So Far:
- Four involved accused persons have been apprehended from different places. They are namely:
- Purna Chandra Nayak @ Dipu, S/o Bhikari Nayak of village/PS- Odagaon,
- Mohant Nayak, S/o Sahita Nayak of Ruhibanka (Dhabasahi), PS- Odagaon,
- Manas Behera, S/o Gourav Behera of Mahapurasahi, PS- Odagaon, and
- Sridhara Sahoo, S/o Late Dharam Sahoo of village Komand, Makarapada, PS- Odagaon.
- Services of the Scientific Team have been utilized.
- Inquest over the dead body was conducted, and the body was sent to DHH, Nayagarh for post-mortem examination by a team of doctors. After the post-mortem examination, the dead body of the deceased was handed over to the family members.
- Several police teams were formed by SP, Nayagarh, who traced and apprehended the above-mentioned four accused persons.
- Police have seized one 407 truck bearing Registration No. OD-02-BF-2984 and one Honda Amaze car bearing Registration No. OD-05-AS-6999 belonging to accused Dipu @ Purna Chandra Nayak.
- The weapon of offence, i.e., the sword, was recovered from the place of concealment as led by accused Manas Behera.
- Teams have been formed to trace out the other accused persons and seize the other involved vehicles in this case.
The above-mentioned four accused persons, being liable for offences punishable under Sections 103(1)/61(2)/3(5) BNS, have been arrested and will be forwarded to the Court.
Adequate police force has been deployed in and around the spot for maintenance of law and order in the locality. Developments in this regard are being kept under close watch for taking necessary precautionary measures.
