Naveen-Dharmendra condole the death of Sangeet Samrat Padma Vibhushan Pandit Jasraj ji

NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union PNG-Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan were on Monday condole the death of Sangeet Samrat Padma Vibhushan Pandit Jasraj ji, who passed away at the age of 90.  He died of cardiac arrest at his house in New Jersey state of US.

“Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of legendary classical vocalist Padma Vibhushan #PanditJasraj. He was a doyen of Indian classical music and left an indelible mark with his sonorous rendering. My thoughts and prayers are with music maestro’s family and millions of fans,” Naveen Patnaik said.

“Saddened by the passing away of legendary vocalist, Sangeet Samrat Padma Vibhushan Pandit Jasraj ji. A doyen of Indian classical vocal music, he will continue to live on in millions of hearts through his soulful renditions. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Om Shanti,” Union Minister Pradhan said.

He had turned 90 in January this year. One of India’s greatest music legend, Jasraj, who belonged to the Mewati Gharana, was in the US when the country went into lockdown due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

“With profound grief we inform that Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj ji breathed his last this morning at 5.15 EST due to a cardiac arrest at his home in New Jersey, USA,” his family said in a statement.

With musical career spanning over 80 years, Pandit Jasraj was awarded with honours such as Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.
