Naveen announces ex-gratia of Rs Lakhs to deceased family in Ganjam mishap

BHUBANESWAR/BERHAMPUR: While expressing his deep sorrow over the death of 9 persons in a tragic road mishap near Golanthara in Ganjam district on Sunday, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased.

Besides, free medical treatment has been announced for all 27 injured people undergoing treatment at MKCG hospital.

According to reports, a bus carrying around 40 passengers caught fire after the vehicle came in contact with live 11KV electric wire near Golanthara in Ganjam district. Following this, 9 persons electrocuted to death while several others sustained critical injuries.

According to sources, the incident occurred this morning after the bus carrying around 40 passengers came in contact with live 11KV electric wire.

Soon after the incident, the bus caught fire. While 9 persons have reportedly died in the incident, several others sustained injuries. They have been rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital.

“A probe will be carried out to ascertain the circumstances which led to the mishap. Treatment of the victims is our current priority,” said Padmanabha Behera, Transport Minister.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed his grief over the deaths and wishes speedy recovery of the injured.
