BHUBANESWAR:Odisha Police has achieved another major milestone under the Nashamukta Odisha Abhiyan by destroying 102,221.615 kg (102.22 metric tonnes) of seized ganja as on 03.07.2026 during the ongoing National Pre-Trial Drug Destruction Special Drive being conducted from 26.06.2026 to 10.07.2026. The special drive is being supervised by the State Task Force (STF), CID Crime Branch, Odisha under close supervision of DG – CID CB.
Owing to the proactive efforts of the district police, the quantity destroyed has now reached 102,221.615 kg (102.22 metric tonnes). This significant achievement demonstrates the commitment of Odisha Police towards the expeditious disposal of seized narcotic drugs and effective implementation of the provisions of the NDPS Act.
The success of the campaign has been driven by the outstanding performance of several districts. Boudh Police emerged as the highest contributor by destroying 37,484.885 kg. Kandhamal Police destroyed 34,245.430 kg, fully achieving its target, while Malkangiri Police destroyed 8,969.940 kg.
Gajapati Police destroyed 6,671 kg. Koraput Police made an exceptional contribution by destroying 6,155.773 kg. Bolangir Police destroyed 1,508 kg. Nabarangpur Police destroyed 851.300 kg. Sundargarh Police destroyed 546.200 KG. Keonjhar Police destroyed 90.933 kg, while Ganjam Police destroyed 81 kg.
During the course of the Special Drive, Angul, Khordha and Rourkela Police Districts, which were not part of the original Special Drive target, also obtained the necessary Drug Disposal Committee orders and successfully joined the campaign. These districts collectively made a valuable contribution by destroying additional seized ganja, with Angul destroying 966 kg, Khordha destroying 400.920 kg, and Rourkela Police District destroying 116.500 kg. Their inclusion substantially enhanced the overall achievement of the State during the campaign.
Several other districts and units also successfully completed 100% destruction of their assigned targets, including Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj, SRP Rourkela and SRP Cuttack, reflecting the coordinated and determined efforts of Odisha Police in eliminating seized narcotic substances.
As on 03.07.2026, only 5,528.897 kg of seized ganja remains to be destroyed by the remaining districts. All concerned district police units have been directed to complete the destruction well before the conclusion of the nationwide Special Drive on 10.07.2026.
The ongoing campaign forms part of the National Pre-Trial Drug Destruction Special Drive launched by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Government of India, from 26 June to 10 July 2026 to ensure timely destruction of pre-trial seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and to strengthen enforcement under the NDPS Act.
Director General of Police, Odisha, Shri Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, has accorded the highest priority to the fight against drug trafficking and organised narcotics networks, reaffirming Odisha Police’s unwavering commitment to a drug-free Odisha under the Nashamukta Odisha Abhiyan.
