SAMBALPUR:Cleanliness is not just a task, it is our moral code. To stay healthy, we have to keep the environment clean. Therefore, Sambalpur MP Shri Dharmendra Pradhan has called for making it an integral part of life and a daily habit.
On the occasion of the holy ‘Mahalaya’, Shri Pradhan joined the district-wide ‘Mega Swachhta Abhiyan’ in Sambalpur district today as part of the Seva Sankalp campaign. Volunteers, students, youth, intellectuals, public representatives and local citizens participated in the cleanliness drive in Sambalpur and made others aware of the cleanliness drive. On this occasion, he said that today, a mass movement and cleanliness festival has been started by the Sambalpur District Administration and the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi. As per the plan of the administration, today about one lakh people in Sambalpur district have gone out and engaged in cleanliness work in their own areas, surroundings and outside their homes. Today, ahead of the holy Mahalaya and Navratri, Sambalpur has set a new example for the country. With cleanliness, the city will remain healthy, the number of tourists will increase and everyone will develop.
He further said that cleanliness is service – this is the basic mantra of our society. Pujya Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi) used to say that cleanliness is more important than freedom. Taking that great idea, the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has turned it into a massive mass movement through ‘Swachhta hi Seva’. Cleanliness has to be made a character and a habit of life. We clean inside the house ourselves, but outside the house, we all have to clean the society together.
To realize the dream of ‘Developed Odisha’ and ‘Developed India’, we all should keep our environment free from garbage, ban single-use plastic and make cleanliness an integral part of our daily lives. We will make continuous efforts to keep our surrounding environment, villages and cities clean and tidy and to make Sambalpur district a clean, beautiful and green district, Shri Pradhan has urged.
Notably, under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, more than 1 lakh volunteers have joined the cleanliness campaign organized at more than 500 places in the district today in collaboration with the Sambalpur District Administration and Sambalpur Municipal Corporation. Shri Pradhan administered the cleanliness pledge to all those who participated and thanked them.
