BHUBANESWAR:May the accidental MLAs and their supporters, who are mostly from Odisha, learn something from today’s results of Bihar’s Bankipur by-election!
While the Bankipur assembly seat has been a BJP stronghold for thirty years, BJP national president Shri Nitin Naveen was elected as MLA from here for five consecutive terms. Not only that, in the state assembly elections held nine months ago, Shri Naveen also won from here by about 55 thousand votes and in that election, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party candidate got only eight thousand votes.
Prashant Kishor also fielded a total of 243 candidates for his Jan Suraj Party in the entire state, but the party did not win a single seat! After being elected as the BJP national president, Shri Nitin Naveen resigned from the post of MLA from Bankipur after being elected to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar in order to enter national politics! Where when the by-elections were held, Prashant Kishor became the Jan Suraj Party candidate and Shri Nitin Naveen’s choice Neeraj Kumar became the BJP candidate!
There is a BJP government in the state, but it could not win the Bankipur by-election and the incident that the national president of the world’s largest political party was defeated in his own booth shocked me! Some senior leader of Bihar BJP had even made a strong statement that even if we field a dog or a cat, he would win in Bankipur! But today in the results, the BJP candidate defeated the voters by more than 19 thousand votes, completely destroying the pride of such leaders! No effort must have been spared by the party for the victory of the BJP candidate and since it is a by-election, no less money must have been spent! Despite everything, a thirty-year-old fortress has been broken and the results of just nine months have been unexpectedly reversed.
This is why it is said that in our Odisha, the voters of the state have ousted a twenty-four-year-old regime from power two years ago and handed over power to the BJP! But after some party candidates unexpectedly became MLAs with a margin of two to five thousand votes during this regime change, experts feel that the arrogance of the said MLAs and some of their supporters has increased a lot.
Their behavior is now such that they will cut off their heads with their hands! But they are forgetting that the people are the supreme in democracy, when they change their minds, the situation will not be at all impossible to change like today’s Bankipur situation! So, those who are reforming should reform a little now, because the people are watching everyone and understanding everything! In the interest of the party, BJP Odisha President Shri Manmohan Samal and Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi should take this positively and put a little restraint on such MLAs now.
