Lord Jagannath’s Golden Attire Mind-Blowing.It is one of the rare Annual Vesha of the Deities. The ornaments for the idols are kiriti, sribhuja, sripahara, kundala, and four types of garlands namely baghamali, ghagera, mali and odiani.

While Lord Jagannath holds a gold ‘chakra’ (wheel) in his right hand and silver ‘sankha’ (conch) in his left hand, his elder brother Lord Balabhadra holds a gold ‘hala’ (plough) in his left hand and a golden ‘gada’ (mace) in his right hand.

The Trinity are adorned with gold jewellery five times in a year. While four such events take place inside the temple, only Suna Vesha is being held while the celestial siblings are on the gigantic wooden chariots in front of the Shree Mandir, which attracts huge attention across the Globe.

The SJTA and the District Administration have made elaborate arrangements for smooth conduct of the Suna Vesha, while police personnel in strength were deployed and barricades erected at several places to prevent people from proceeding to the Grand Avenue during the event. SJTA Chief Administrator Krishan Kumar said the rituals were telecast live on television to enable the devotees around the world to have Darshan and watch the grand event. Dr.Kumar was happy over arrangements as the Grand Event was organized in a hassle free manner, thanks to Lord’s Wish. SJTA Chief Administrator Dr.Kumar will be rewarding these devoted servitors soon, revealed an insider of Shree Jagannath Shrine.

As per the centuries-old practice, the Lords are attired in gold jewellery on the 11th day of the bright fortnight of the month of Asadha. The golden avatar, also called the Rajadhiraja Besha, of the Trinity is performed a day after the Bahuda Jatra when the Lords return from Shree Gundicha temple to Shree Mandir.

As per the temple records, the ‘Suna Vesha’ of the Trinity is being held since the reign of King Kapilendra Dev in 1430. Trinity wear glittering gold jewellery weighing nearly three quintals. The ornaments are stored at Shree Mandir  Treasury called Ratna Bhandar. The King had earned the gold after defeating other kingdoms and deposited them with the temple, a temple official said quoting the shrine records.

The Puri district administration has deployed 60 platoons of force along with 400 officers for the smooth conduct of Suna Besha of the Holy Trinity. The district administration has clamped curfew in the town from 3pm to 10pm to maintain law and order situation. The entire Badadanda and adjoining market places have been put under section 144.Such restrictions will continue till Niladri Bije, officials said. All the vantage points of Puri town have been sealed.
