NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: Amid widespread protest and agitation over the Agniveer Scheme across India, JSW Group Chairman and World Steel Association President,  Sajjan Jindal on Saturday strongly backed the move of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Government and termed the on-going unrest as unfortunate and uncalled for, and it was misleading the Nation.

In a series of tweets, the JSW Group Chairman, Sajjan Jindal, who shares close bonding with PM Modi, said  “It is disheartening to see how some people use every opportunity to mislead our nation and project every positive development as a negative move. I admire the foresight behind #Agnipath and am confident that it is in the interest of our nation,”

“Negative elements of our society are provoking our young individuals by saying that this will militarize our country. What it will do is only make our country stronger to any external threat. Don’t we all feel safer around our strong and disciplined Armed Services Men? #Agnipath,” the JSW Group Chairman said.

“No better place than our Armed Forces for training our youth. Countries like Switzerland, Israel, Singapore etc. mandatorily make their citizens undergo Military Training. Values of nationalism and discipline taught by the Military build character & strength of a nation #Agnipath,” the World Steel Association President added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) decides to reserve 10 percent vacancies for recruitment in CAPFs and Assam Rifles for Agniveers, completing four years under the Agnipath Scheme announced by the Government of India, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

In a series of tweets, the Home Minister’s Office said that “The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) decides to reserve 10% vacancies for recruitment in CAPFs and Assam Rifles for Agniveers, completing four years under the Agnipath Scheme announced by the Government of India, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi”.

It also said that “The MHA also decides to give 3 years age relaxation beyond the prescribed upper age limit to Agniveers for recruitment in CAPFs & Assam Rifles. Further, for the first batch of Agniveer, the age relaxation will be for 5 years beyond the prescribed upper age limit.”
