BHUBANESWAR:Issues like adolescent mental health, emotion and stress, positive mental health and life skills, problem-solving skills, digital health, mental well-being, resilience and healthy coping figured at a nine-day workshop organised at the SUM Nursing College, faculty of nursing of the SOA Deemed to be University here, which concluded recently.
To promote experiential learning, the workshop titled ‘Building Resilience among Young Adolescents: A Pathway to Holistic Health Promotion’ under the theme ‘Young Minds, Resilient Youth, Brighter Future’, included simulation on unhealthy emotional behaviour, panel discussions on resilience and adaptation to healthy coping.
The topics taken up in the workshop included ‘When Silence Hurts’, ‘Peer Pressure vs. Personal Choice’, ‘From Emotional Breakdown to Emotional Balance’, ‘You Are Not Alone’ and ‘Misunderstood to Understood’.
The participants enthusiastically engaged in innovative activities such as the Emotional Wheel, Stress Balloon, Resilience Tree and Vision Board to identify emotions, manage stress, discover personal strengths, build support systems and visualize future goals across education, health, spirituality, emotional well-being, personal growth, career and family. The interaction was further enriched through case studies, books, journals, posters and newspaper articles.
The workshop was inaugurated in the presence of Prof. Pravati Tripathy, Director, SUM Nursing College, Prof. Sasmita Das, Dean, Prof. Tapati Saha, Additional Dean and Prof. Debjani Nayak, Associate Professor.
The scientific sessions were conducted by experts who included Ms. Suchismita Pahanta Singh, Associate Professor, Dr. Amiya Krishna Panda, Dr. Riya Shetty, Dr. Kirti Anurag, Dr. Subhendu Narayan Mishra, Dr. Hiranmay Mahapatra, Ms. Rita Rani Nayak and Ms. Sephali Moharana.
The workshop, planned and conducted by the 1st Year M.Sc. Nursing students, was coordindated by Mr. Amit Sahoo and Ms. Payel Panda, both students, under the guidance of Additional Dean Prof. Tapati Saha.
It contained daily recapitulation sessions, participant interaction, group presentations, post-tests, workshop evaluations and feedback.
The workshop concluded with a grand valedictory ceremony graced by Dr. Pushparaj Samantasinghar, Medical Superintendent of the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, who was the chief guest and Dr. Rashmimala Pradhan (guest of honour).
Certificates were distributed to all eligible participants and organizing committee members, followed by appreciation of the faculty, report presentation, workshop analysis and participant feedback, marking the successful culmination of a unique initiative dedicated to empowering young minds with resilience, hope and holistic well-being.
